Allergy Desensitisation
DBV Technologies is developing targeted allergy therapies specifically for patients with a severe IgE mediated food allergies with lead programmes in peanut allergies.
Some food allergies can be fatal with 50 to 60 deaths attributed to anaphylactic shock each year. Current desensitisation treatments for allergies such as hayfever or dustmite allergies involve invasive administration in order to present the allergen into the bloodstream.
Desensitisation treatments involving the exposure of allergen to the bloodstream cannot be used to treat food allergies due to the high accidental risk of anaphylactic shock. To date, there are no existing over-the-counter desensitisation treatments on the market for food allergies.
DBV Technologies’ unique VIASKIN® technology ensures the required allergen is delivered in a quantifiable amount to the immune cells of the epidermis and that it does not pass into the blood stream, thereby avoiding the risk of anaphylactic shock. DBV Technologies’ desensitisation treatment expects to be the first to market to present a non-bloodstream allergen treatment. Peanut allergy desensitisation studies are in pre-clinical trials.
