VIASKIN Cow's Milk

Cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) is often missed in primary care setting and can be a significant cause of infant distress and diverse clinical symptoms when left undiagnosed. Symptoms can include gastrointestinal problems (vomiting and diarrhea), urticaria (skin rash) and angio-oedema2, as well as a risk of anaphylactic shock3. CMPA is the most common food allergy in infants and young children, affecting 2% to 3% of the general population.

The only option available for CMPA management is the avoidance of cow’s milk, which can lead to issues of dietary imbalance, reduced quality of life owing to hampered socialization and the continual risk of anaphylactic shock [Dupont et al.]

DBV Technologies has conducted a double-blind placebo-controlled pilot trial on a small number of children with severe CMPA using VIASKIN® epicutaneous delivery system. This trial was approved by the French Drug Agency and the local Ethics Committee: Although performed on a limited number of patients, this pilot study suggests EPIT is safe and could constitute a therapeutic option in children with severe IgE-mediated CMPA.
